General Ewa Burrows

My main task was not to interpret General Burrows, but I was appointed to be her private chauffeur during The annual Congress of The Salvation Army in Norway in 1991.

A coincident led me into the interpreter´s role because the General wanted to attend a “Gospel Night” late Saturday night and event she was not scheduled for. When she arrived (without her hosts) she was asked to address the young people and she turned to her driver, and I was honoured to step in as her Norwegian voice. She took the big congregation (full Temple hall) like whirlwind.

In 2008 General Ewa Burrows visited Norway as the main speaker at our annual Congress once again, and again by coincident, I interpreted Russian for her, and her response back to Russian - God works in mysterious ways. (see Captain Vladimir Baskinov). Unfortunately I missed some of her preaching, since the young people had their own meetings parallell with the three of the main meetings - and I was the main speaker there.

Brief biography

Eva Burrows, born in Australia 15 september 1929, became the youngest person elected to the office of General in the Army´s history. She was the General from 9 July 1986 to 8 July 1993. Her contribution to the development of the Army is described as "A New Era" in the eight volume of the official history of The Salvation Army. She was promoted to glory 20 March 2015.
